Biography

Laurina Sanger aka Topsy was the eldest daughter of George Sanger and Ellen Chapman. Laurina was born 23rd February 1853 at Cheadle. She became an equestrian performer and by the time she was twelve years old she was already performing in an equestrian scene on his parent's circus. Laurina married Alexander Coleman, the clown 'Little Sandy', on 14th March 1874 and had four children; Georgina (b.1874), Alexander 'Sandy' (1876-1886), Ellen 'Topsy' (1878-1969) and George (b.1880). Laurina died on 14th October 1882, aged 29. She was buried in Margate Cemetery, in the family grave.
