Scope and Contents
Photograph of Laurina 'Topsy' Sanger, equestrian performer and eldest daughter of George and Ellen 'Nellie' Sanger (nee Chapman). Laurina was born 23rd February 1853, at Cheadle. She was first noted as performing an equestrian scene with Sanger's circus, in 1865. Laurina married Alexander Coleman, the clown 'Little Sandy', on 14th March 1874 and had four children Georgina (b.1874), Alexander 'Sandy' (b.1876, d.1886), Ellen 'Topsy' (b.1878, d.1969) and George (b.1880). Laurina died on 14th October 1882, aged 29 years and was buried at Margate Cemetery, in the Sanger plot. The image is taken with a sign 'J Mullers Photograph, Anstall'.
