Biography
John (Jim) Kenneth Stafford Poole was a Myriorama manager and cinema proprietor.
Jim was the son of John Reginald Pool, born in Gloucester on 7 July 1911. He started to work on his father’s Myrioramas at a young age in various roles including sound effects and projectionist.
Jim went to school in Edinburgh and Durham and later trained as an engineer at Heriot Watt University. In 1932, aged 21, he was already managing the family’s cinemas in Aberdeen.
Jim married actor Iris Sterck on 3 September 1836 and they had three daughters Diana, Celia and Genevieve.
During the Second Wold War Jim served as Films Officer to the forces in the Middle East. When he returned he opened with own cinema in Edinburgh, which he run until 1963.
In 1868 Jim was elected president of the national Cinematograph Exhibitors Association.
Jim died on 16 January 1998 in Edinburgh.
