On 24th April 1906 Norwood, then at Leeds Grammar School, was appointed Headmaster of Bristol Grammar School, taking up his duties there the following September. In 1912 he was awarded an Hon.D.Lit. by Bristol University. In April 1916 he was invited to apply for the post of Master of Marlborough College, and, following his subsequent appointment, he left Bristol Grammar School in December 1916.

Stanley Charles Booker attended Bristol Grammar School 1903-12 and was a protégé of Norwood's. Booker followed Norwood to St. John's College, Oxford in 1912, gaining a Second class in Classical Moderations in 1914. In March 1915 he joined the Worcestershire Regiment, serving as a lieutenant. He was killed in action attempting to save an injured comrade near Neuve Chapelle in northern France on 10th October 1916, aged 23, and is buried at St. Vaast, Pas-de-Calais
