After the death of his father in 1851, Sir Philip Sidney, the 2nd Lord De L'Isle and Dudley, commissioned Devey to carry out a number of alterations to Penshurst Place, which continued for the next two decades. Annotated 'Penshurst Castle. Repaired &c by G. Devey.'
