Biography
Professor Sir Keith Burnett was Vice Chancellor of the University of Sheffield from 2007 to 2018. He is a physicist who specialised in Bose-Einstein condensates. He received his BA and DPhil at the University of Oxford and has held academic positions in Physics at the University of Colorado, Imperial College, and the University of Oxford. He was the Chairman of Physics and the Head of the Division of Mathematical, Physical, and Life Sciences. Alongside acting as Vice-Chancellor of Sheffield from 2007 to 2018, Burnett was the Chair of the Board of Universities and Colleges Employers Association between 2001-2009. Outside of academia, Burnett has contributed to the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and was appointed to the Advisory Council of Infrastructure UK in 2012. For his efforts, Burnett has received many accolades, including a CBE for his services to physics, the Young Medal and Prize, and in 2013 was knighted for his services to science and higher education.
