Biography
English singer, songwriter and actor David Essex, was born David Albert Cook on 23 July 1947 in Plaistow, Essex.
He became interested in music while in school and played drums with a local band, before becoming a singer. He made his first record for the Fontana label in 1965 and started touring with 'David Essex and the Mood Indigo'.
By 1971, already a well known singer, David diversified into acting, which has gained him many roles on both films and musical theatre over the extent of his career.
In the late 1900s, David spent six years as an ambassador for Voluntary Service Overseas, which earned him an OBE in 1999.
David owns his own record label, Lamplight, later known as Joseph Webster Ltd, which he has used to record and release music into the twenty first century. He still tours regularly and releases new music.
