Biography
Tjitte de Vries was a Dutch journalist, film historian, film collector and critic born on 1 January 1938.
Tjitte worked as a research journalist and editor, specialised in foreign policy for the Het Vrije Volk newspaper for many years before developing an interest in film critique and history.
Together with his wife Ati Mul he looked after the Melbourne-Cooper fund at EYE. Together they authored ‘They Thought it was a Marvel’ Arthur Melbourne-Cooper (1874-1961), Pioneer of Puppet Animation in 2009, a biography of Arthur Melbourne-Cooper. Over the years they also amassed a large collection of cinematographic material including film reels, photographs, posters, cameras and projectors, which are now part of the Friends of the Film Archive.
Tjitte de Vries died on 15 December 2015,aged 77 years old.
