Scope and Contents

The photograph library of the Friendship Circle of Showland Fans (FCFS). This collection includes material relating to famous fairs, engines and rides. As well as containing a full bound set of 'Merry-Go-Round' journals and numerous books, letters and other journals. The collection includes various catalogues and notebooks documenting the use of traction engines on the fairground.

Various transport vehicles including Fowler steam engine No.20223 'Supreme'. Colour, no sound.

All films are in colour with no sound except 178D20.2 which has a sound track that was recorded separately from the film. The film reels have been digitised and are available to view online, however, the sound reel for 178D2 has not been digitised.

Footage includes early postcards and photographs of the fair as well as the build up of the amusement ride Thurston's Jets and Skid, Noyce's Gallopers and Harry Lees' Steam Yachts. Footage also includes build up of sideshows includes Shuffs Supershow and It's a Weird World. There is also footage of Ted Dandridge with Noyce's Gallopers organ and Nichols' Speedway Ark. Colour, no sound.
