Biographical / Historical
Dr Arthur William Chapman was a lecturer in Chemistry and became the first warden of Crewe Hall before he was appointed Registrar, a post held between 1944 and 1963. The collection comprises all the files and rough notes compiled by Chapman during the preparation of his history of the University for it’s 50th anniversary. It is clear that the material has been compiled into the present structure by Chapman's work from records whose provenance lay elsewhere. Whilst the collection of files has retained Chapman's original arrangement, the provenance and original order of the extracted material is not known.
