Devey was commissioned by Lieutenant Colonel Philip Smith to design the manor in the early 1870's, and his brother Revd Albert Smith commissioned a new vicarage nearby. The photograph shows a large group playing croquet on the lawn in front of the manor. Annotated 'Wendover Manor, Bucks. G. Devey'.
