Biographical / Historical
George William Burley, was born in 1885. His technical education was gained at University College, Sheffield (1900-1905), and from 1907 to 1921 he was lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield. For the duration of World War I, Burley was Manager of Sheffield University Munition Works. In 1921, he became Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute, Matunga, Bombay, and in 1931 was appointed Principal. He retired in 1940 and returned to Sheffield.
