Biographical / Historical

These documents were discovered in a 100-year old lead and glass time capsule which was found under the University Foundation Stone at Western Bank during building work on 30th May 2003. The time capsule was originally buried during a ceremony to lay the foundation stone on 30th June 1903 by the Lord Mayor of London, Marcus Samuel. The documents include plans of the future building, lists of those who attended and details of the arrangements that were made for the ceremony in June 1903. Some damage has been caused to the documents by drilling, damp and plaster dust. The documents were originally folded into a glass jar, which was broken by the drilling.
