Biographical / Historical
The Theosophical Society is a worldwide body which aims to advance the ideas of Theosophy in continuation of previous Theosophists, including Greek philosophers dating back to 3rd century AD. It also encompasses wider religious philosophies such as Vedānta, Mahāyāna Buddhism, Qabbalah, and Sufism. It was founded in New York on 17 November 1875 and in 1882 the international headquarters of the Society was established at Adyar, near Madras, India.
