Includes material relating to: rate capping, the Conservative government's policy of restricting local government spending, and the refusal of Sheffield City Council to set rates for 1985/1986 (rate-capping rebellion); Labour Party Conference, October 1985; a 'peace deal' with the Militant faction of the Labour Party running Liverpool City Council brokered by Blunkett, October 1985; Blunkett's selection as Labour party candidate for Brightside constituency on the retirement of Joan Maynard MP, June 1987. Also includes correspondence with publishers relating to proofs of the book Democracy in Crisis: The Town Halls Respond by Blunkett and Keith Jackson; article by Blunkett 'Making Democracy Work' in Catalyst: A Journal of Policy Debate (Winter 1985); and interview with Blunkett on rate-capping in Marxism Today, March 1985 entitled 'Ratecap Resistance'.
