Scope and Contents
Press cuttings and other material relating to David Blunkett's early political career in Sheffield. Mainly contains press cuttings concerning local issues relating to Blunkett's role as a Councillor for Southey Green Ward, and his membership of various council committees. Also includes correspondence and cuttings concerning Blunkett being awarded his degree form the University of Sheffield, July 1972, and his selection as the Labour Party candidate for Hallam constituency, November-December 1972. Includes a copy of 'The New Beacon', Journal of Blind Welfare, featuring a profile on Blunkett, January 1972; and a copy of 'Out and About' a newsletter from the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association including a report of Blunkett being awarded his degree, July 1972.
