Scope and Contents
Material relating to the Yellow School Bus Commission, an independent commission chaired by Blunkett and established to examine the costs and benefits of a dedicated home to school transport network in the UK. The year long review resulted in the publication of the Commission's report and recommendations in September 2008. Files include: notes of visits by the Commission to schools, councils and bus companies in England, plus a visit to the USA, 2008; minutes and agendas of meetings of the Commission 2007-2010; drafts and final version of the Commission's report, 2008; response of the Commission to House of Commons Transport Committee Call for Evidence on School Travel, April 2008; strategy of the Commission in 2009 to secure backing of the government for its recommendations; government's response to the Commissions recommendations, April 2010; letters to Scottish MPS promoting the Yellow School Bus scheme, 2010; minutes of meetings with members of the Welsh Assembly, 2010; and letters from the Department of Transport and Department for Education relating to the scheme, 2010-11.
