Scope and Contents
Contains material relating to the work Blunkett undertook as chair of the policy manifesto group looking at welfare reform for the Labour group Progress. Includes: agenda and a discussion paper for the first meeting of the group in March 2008; Blunkett's submission for a meeting of the Progress welfare reform group on 8 October 2008 relating to rewarding honesty to combat benefit fraud; and a pdf of the report 'Autonomy and control: making welfare work for social justice' - a green paper from the Progress Policy Group on Welfare Reform.
Also includes copies of a number of reports used as reference for the group, including: 'Principles for Welfare Reform', report from Blunkett as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, September 2005; David Freud’s report to the DWP 'Reducing dependency, increasing opportunity: options for the future of welfare to work', March 2007; and the IPPR’s 'Working Out of Poverty: A study of the low-paid and the ‘working poor’', January 2008.
