The Russian Bruiser Getting his Dose with his Seconds Thirds Bottle Holder etc Coming in for their Share, 30 January 1801
Scope and Contents
By Isaac Cruikshank. Paul (left) and George III fight, stripped to the waist, the former's belt inscribed 'Petersburg'. Paul flinches back, hard pressed; one eye is closed with a patch inscribed 'Malta'. Behind the King (right) stands Pitt in full armour but wearing spurred modern boots over his greaves. His vizor is closed, its sharp point burlesqueing his profile. A dragon surmounts his plumed helmet, his shield is covered with the Royal Arms; in his right hand is a lance. The King says: "I say Billy, Billy - Think I can do them all - now for Petersburgh." Pitt says: "Well done my old Master you have Blocked up Malta, now dash right in to Petersburgh - as for the Other little wretches you can Easily trip up their Heels & lay them on their Backs." Paul's second and third, the Kings of Denmark and Sweden, both stripped to the waist, are on the extreme left; the former sits on the ground, exclaiming, "I wish I was safe at Copenhagen again". Gustavus IV, Adolphus, saying, "And I at Stockholm", crouches and turns as if to flee. Behind them stands the King of Prussia, in uniform, holding a bottle decorated with the Prussia eagle (incorrectly drawn); he says: "I am only Neuter, George, dont take any Side, - my Love to my Daughter [the Duchess of York]." Paul says: "Curse this George, he hits so hard I wish I had not Challenged him - why you sculking dogs why don't you come in front & stand up to him, I dont like to have all his clumsey thumps."
