Artist: Isaac Cruikshank. Published: S. W. Fores. In the foreground three fat and unsoldierly Dutchmen sit on clumsy horses. On the left man and horse are in back view. Next, the rider holds a pitcher in his left hand; kettle-drums are slung to the horse, an enormous trumpet extends above the rider's shoulder and nearly touches the ground. The next horse (right) stands in profile to the right, so overweighted that foam falls from his nostrils. From its rider's bulging breeches protrudes a bottle. In the middle distance (right) a stout Dutchman swings in the air from a pulley, his legs astride, and is about to descend upon the saddle of his horse. The windlass of the gibbet-like structure is turned by a man stripped to the waist. The three soldiers whose faces are visible are all smoking pipes. Description from the British Museum.
