Scope and Contents

Engraving (coloured impression). A farmer (right) with a villainous profile, and ferocious scowl, offers a money-bag to his landlord, an elderly gentleman wearing spectacles. He says: “If I lay up my Corn, what is that to any one – There is your Rent in a good round sum – I am none of your fifty pound Farmers!” The landlord, deprecatingly polite, answers: “My Dear Sir, you are very good – I am sure you are a very honest Man – your Countenance is an index to your mind.” Partial description from the Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires Vol. VIII.
