Scope and Contents
Scrapbook titled 'Memorials of James Montgomery, consisting of portraits, letters with explanatory notes, personal recollections, and notices of some of his friends. Collected and arranged by Mary-Anne Rawson'.
The scrapbook consists of the personal recollections of Mary Anne Rawson in the form of a continuous narrative, which begins on page 9, interspersed with portraits, drawings and memorabilia relating to James Montgomery and his friends, including many of his original letters. The pasted-in items are listed 19/1/4/1 to 19/1/4/192.
Mary Anne Rawson recounts her life throughout the scrapbook, mostly structured around her interactions with James Montgomery, such as her memories of him from her childhood when he would visit her father. She also includes detail in her writing about the pasted-in material, providing information about the people it relates to and the context.
In a preface to the volume, Mary Anne writes that she was encouraged to arrange her recollections and Montgomery's letters by '...my Elizabeth. They were for her - who will care for them now. M. A. R'. Elizabeth (1828 - 1862) was the daughter of Mary Anne and William Rawson.

A note in the front of the scrapbook reads: 'On the death of Mrs. Rawson her nephew, John Wycliffe Wilson, inherited this book. From him it has passed to his son Talbot E.B. Wilson and then to a grandson.'
