The annual residential summer course organised by the Gilbert Champernowne Trust became known as Cumberland Lodge, due to it taking place at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park. The first Cumberland Lodge summer course was held by the Trust in 1972. Champernowne and her colleagues were drawn to the idea of a community of peers engaged in Withymead activities and the first course involved about 60 people assembled together for a week of lectures and practical creative expression. The course offered a a combination of lectures and opportunities for active imagination provided in arts workshops. The courses aimed to support professionals in exploring the creative and innovative aspects of Jungian psychotherapy methods. The course name remained the same after the Gilbert Champernowne Trust became The Champernowne Trust, and ran for another 50 years.
