Scope and Contents
Diaries of Elizabeth Firth (1797 - 1837), recording her daily life in the Yorkshire village of Thornton and her time at boarding school near Wakefield in yearly diaries from 1812 to 1825. They include references to members of the Brontë family with whom Elizabeth was acquainted. Transcriptions are available for these diaries (see the External Documents section below). There is also a diary containing Elizabeth Firth’s pre-marriage holiday journey to London May - September 1819, a fragmentary diary titled 'Choice Scraps, E Franks' for 1829, an 1848 diary by Mary, Mrs Charles Smith, mother of George Moore Smith, and an 1857 diary by Elizabeth George Moore Smith.
