Scope and Contents

Contains correspondence between the Showmen's Guild, the local government, Mitcham Court and the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis New Scotland Yard including many items written by and addressed to Revered Thomas Horne, as well as correspondence between members of the Guild and the Guild regarding Mitcham Fair including a letter from Tom Norman, newspaper cuttings, documents related to fundraising campaigns by the Showmen's Guild on behalf of Mitcham benevolent institutions including receipts for donations, cheques and records of charitable takings towards the Red Cross, Mitcham Wildon Cottage Hospital Trust and a motor ambulance and First World War funds, many documents and newspaper cuttings related to the campaign on the defence of Mitcham Fair and a plan of the positioning of rides and stalls at the fair. All the documents are related to the history of Mitcham fair, its management, bye-laws, Mitcham Urban District Council Act 1923 and legal issues. Manuscript and typescript.
