Biography
An actress who had modest success on the British stage but found fame in America. She was born in West Riding, Yorkshire in 1809, and moved to New York in 1846. The ‘Records of the New York Stage from1750 to 1860’ call her a “capable artiste.” She made her first appearance in America in the play “Dumb Girl of Genoa”. She was caught up in the New York riot of 1849, but emerged largely unscathed. She retired from the stage when her husband, who was declared mentally insane, committed suicide. She died in 1880.
