Biography
Brooke was born in Dublin and toured provincial theatres in England before returning home to concentrate on acting there. He travelled frequently abroad too; he went to America in 1851 for eighteen months and acted in Australia for six years. Australian audiences regarded him as one of the greatest actors of his generation. He died during the sinking of the ‘SS London’ in the Bay of Biscay.
