Biography
Ali Hassan was born in Cairo, Egypt in c1876. By the age of 25, Ali weighed about 139 kilograms and was 8 feet and 2 inches tall. He is said to have been discovered by German animal trader Heinrich Moller at the Siwa Oasis, 560 kilometres from Cairo, while collecting animals for European menageries.
Ali was brought to Europe to be exhibited as a human giant and travelled around America with Barnum and Bailey and later Forepaugh and Sells Brothers.
