Biography

George Clark was Registrar at the University of Sheffield from 1963 to September 1965. He had previously held the position of Deputy Academic Registrar and Secretary to the Collegiate Council at the University of London. He gained first-class honours in Mathematics, took the postgraduate diploma in Education with distinction, and later the M.A. in Education at Liverpool University. After teaching in schools before the war, he joined the Royal Navy in 1940 and served becoming Instructor Lieutenant Commander. After leaving the Navy he joined the administrative staff of University College, London transferring to the central administration of University of London in 1948. He was President of the University football club and from 1937 was a football league referee and refereed at a number of international matches.
