Biography

Mr William Gibbons was appointed as full-time Registrar at the age of 29 in the autumn of 1902 for the University College, Sheffield. He had previously worked as Assistant Secretary to the Birmingham and Midland Institute. In 1942 he was conferred with the Honorary Doctorate of Laws and an annual subscription was raised in his honour to be awarded annually to a graduate in the Faculty of Arts.
