Biography
Hans Scharoun was born in Bremen, Germany,and grew up in Bremerhaven before studying architecture in Berlin. He was the most important modernist architect to remain in Germany during the Nazi era and re-emerged to a major career in the 1960s. He was the leading German exponent of organic and expressionist architecture, the alternative tradition with the Modern Movement. He was best known for designing the Berlin Philharmonie.
