Biography

Cathy Lovett was born on 27th July 1941 in the Pennine village of Golcar, close to Huddersfield. Singing was a large part of her life from an early age, joining the thriving children’s choir at the age of six. She moved to London at the age of 18 to study singing, and eventually became a singing teacher. In later years, she began to write poetry in the dialect of her native West Yorkshire, using it to capture the atmosphere and character of the Golcar she knew in childhood. Her poem “Wat” was published in the Arrival Press 1994 Anthology - Yorkshire, and she has since produced a collection of 23 of her poems under the title Half a Pint of Mixed.
