Biography
Elliott Dodds was a journalist, newspaper editor, Liberal politician and thinker. He was born in London in 1889 and educated at Mill Hill School and New College Oxford. He showed an early talent as a writer and cartoonist. By the time of his graduation he was fully committed to the Liberal cause, which led to his writing several books and many articles, as well as to the unsuccessful contesting of elections in York, Halifax and Rochdale. In 1948, he was the Liberal Party´s national president, and in 1953, he co-founded and became chairman of the Unservile State Group.
Dodds´ career as a journalist began and ended with the "Huddersfield Examiner", which he joined as leader writer in 1914, later becoming Editor and Director. His reputation as a Nonconformist layman led to further articles, sermons and speeches. Dodds was awarded the CBE in 1973, and died in 1977.
