Biography
Millie Hylton was born Sarah Frances Louise Rudge in c1870 in Birmingham. Millie’s father was a brass founder and chandelier maker, while her mother Elizabeth came from the popular entertainment sector, having had a short acting career in the West Midlands. The couple had five daughters, all of who pursued a career in entertainment.
The sisters started their career together as The Rudge Sisters, formed by Letitia Elizabeth aka Letty Lind (1861-1923), Sarah Frances Louise aka Millie Hylton (1870-1920), Elizabeth aka Adelaide Astor (1873-1951), Lydia Rudge aka Lydia Flopp (1877-1963) and Fanny Rudge aka Fanny Dango (1878-1972). The Rudge Sisters performed as dancer, singers and pantomime actors in the English music hall scene.
Eventually the sisters went their separate ways to pursue individual careers. Millie mainly developed her career as a male impersonator incorporating her singing, acting and dancing skills into her role and performed male roles in many pantomimes.
Millie Hylton died in 1920 aged 50 years old.
