Biography

Colonel William Hicks, also known as Hicks Pasha, was a British soldier, who entered the Bombay Army in 1849, and served through the Indian mutiny. He retired from the British army having reached the rank of Colonel. At the end of the Anglo-Egyptian war in 1882, he entered the service of the Egyptian government and was made a Pasha and led its army into battle with Sudan at Shaykan in 1883, where he was killed and decapitated.
