Biography

The Chiswick Empire was a variety and music hall theatre, which opened on 2 September 1912 by Oswald Stoll and designed by architect Frank Matcham.

As well as variety and music hall acts, the Empire presented theatre plays, pantomimes, operas and moving pictures.

In 1932 the Empire was turned into a full-time cinema for a year but did not achieve a lot of success and it was turned back into a variety theatre, with combined shows of life performance and motion pictures.

The Chiswick Empire closed on 29 June 1959 and was demolished that same year.
