Biography
Angolpark was created by the Meinhard brothers, who operated several amusement venues in Budapest. As business prospered the brothers decided to purchase three plots across Hermina Road to create a single amusement park. The complex was opened on 27 March 1910.
The park was renamed in several occasions during its history, during the Asteroid Revolution it was called National Park, during the Soviet government it was called Néppark, and during World War Two it was called Hungária Park.
Anglopark was designed with an adult audience in mind, opening until late in the night and becoming most lively between nine and midnight.
Until the Second World War, Angolpark was one of the most popular entertainment venues of the middle class in Pest, however the war caused significant and irreparable damage to several parts of the park. After the war, Angolpark became the property of the Soviet authorities, who continued with their operation.
